The Geelong Post-Junk project, Special Guest, formed in 2024 under “surreal” circumstances, “far beyond the realm of an ordinary musical collaboration” (Beat Magazine). An amalgamation of both post-punk and noise-rock - coined by the group as "Post-Junk"- their artistry is an enticing array of hyper-melodic guitar, tightly wound percussion and theatrical vocals accompanied by unwavering synth glitches. Although Special Guest briefly disbanded in September of 2024, after an argument over the birthplace of Czech-American tennis player Martina Navratilova, the band decided to reform two days later to release their debut tracks “Habit Addict” and “Atomizer” in a live studio format.
Following their debut show at the Tote supporting Bench Press alongside Screensaver and The Maggie Pills, Special Guest were quick to feature in Beat Magazine – who described them as “unexpected, raw, and a little chaotic”. Enmeshed in a (seemingly unnecessary) allure of mystery, Special Guest’s iconography and sound attracts many and confuses even more. So come join them for their second ever Headline show at The Espy – with special guests: The Mundaynes and 40th Parallel!
