The Parting Glass: Three Cheers for Shane MacGowan

Three Years Gone — Forever in the Song

A celebration of Shane MacGowan and The Pogues, featuring ARIA Award winner Tyrone Noonan and some of Queensland’s finest musicians.

The Celtic Counts bring the songs, spirit and unmistakable storytelling of Shane MacGowan and The Pogues to The Royal Hotel Nundah on Friday, 27 November — just days before the third anniversary of Shane’s passing.

Expect a spirited night of Irish folk, punk energy and unforgettable songs, including Pogues favourites alongside music from the rich tradition that inspired them. From rousing singalongs and traditional ballads to jigs, reels and the beautifully bruised poetry of Shane MacGowan, this is a celebration of a songwriter whose words and melodies continue to connect generations.

Led by Tyrone Noonan, co-founder and frontman of multi platinum-selling, ARIA Award-winning Brisbane band george, The Celtic Counts bring decades of musical experience and a deep personal connection to Irish music. Noonan’s own Irish musical journey began in Brisbane, continued through years of performing in Dublin and New York, and has seen him share stages and events with artists including Macy Gray, Jewel, Tori Amos and Deep Purple maestro Jon Lord.

For this special performance, Noonan will be joined by a hand-picked lineup of Qld musicians, creating a full-band experience filled with additional soloists who, together, will raise the roof—and a few glasses—to Shane, The Pogues and the enduring power of a great song.

Whether you’re a lifelong Pogues fan, a lover of Irish music or simply ready for a night of live music, laughter and loud singing, The Parting Glass: Three Cheers for Shane MacGowan promises to be a heartfelt and high-energy celebration. Doors 7.30PM.
